Elena smiles back in spite of herself, straightening back up once he leans back.
"I wanted to do something nice," she explains, grabbing the plates and taking them to the table where they can eat it. Surprisingly, the bacon looks pretty good. "To say thank you. For ... everything."
His head tips to the side and he bites back the obvious snarky comment - Elena, you cooking for someone is not really the way to say thank you - but he can appreciate the sentiment behind it and he nods.
"Always," he says with a small smile. "I'll always be here for you if you need me." He pauses. "Provided we're both in the same universe, of course."
Because oddly enough that's a problem they've had.
"They really don't like keeping us in the same place for too long, do they?" she asks of the rifts. It's been a long time - she knows that time feels differently to Stefan than it does to her, but a year for Elena is a really long time.
Stefan shakes his head. A year is long enough to him, to be honest. Ninety is almost unimaginable. So much changes in a decade, let a lone a century, he can't really say he's the same person that left Chicago any more than she can - even if he just happens to be reliving a century he's already lived before.
"I think we should just make the most of it while we have it. Not worry about how long and just ... enjoy it."
Elena considers his proposition. It's almost like a weight's been lifted. There's a freedom to not worrying about the when and the where. She smiles, lifting up her orange juice as though in toast.
"To here and now?" she asks. Which is her way of agreeing, but swankier.
He nods in agreement, before shifting to lift up his own juice as well to clink it against hers. "To here and now." Which is definitely a lot better than getting bogged down in the past.

She can't imagine ninety.
