The thing about dates is Alek has absolutely no idea how they work.
Both he and Cora find the rules of courtship more often than not utterly confusing, but it's their first date. That means it needs to be special, right? It can still be tailored to fit them, while still being a date and not the usual let's-go-to-the-movies-because-there's-little-else-to-do-on-this-ship-when-it's-quiet. It's why he's made sure the restaurant he picked for them to eat has pizzas, and the robot chef seems to be a romantic, if the pizza-shaped hearts he has made for them are any indication.
His brothers have each given him their own piece of advice - a lot of which is contradicting, by the way - and it doesn't help the slight nerves that threaten to bubble up his chest. He reminds himself it's Cora, and they'll enjoy the night no matter what because it's with each other.
... He did, however, listen to Ethan and get her flowers.
He is holding them awkwardly as he knocks on her cabin, and he is really hoping Derek isn't around in his own cabin right next to hers.
Thankfully, Derek is not home. Cora actually hasn't seen him in a while, and she thinks that he may have gotten sent home for a bit, but she's choosing not to worry about it. It's a bit like Schrodinger's cat. If she doesn't knock on his door, doesn't try to find out of he's gone, then he's obviously still there.
(It's a little sad, when you think about it. Cora is choosing not to.)
Her dog jumps to his feet when he hears the knock on the door, barking at the sound as though to say hey, somewhere's there, regardless of the fact that she heard the knock too. She smirks at him (she's really going to have to name this dog one day), reaching down to pat his head gently, before continuing to the door. She takes a breath before she opens it, smoothing down the front of her outfit that Mary Jane had helped pick out for her, before finally opening the door with a smile.
It's a little forced (it's either that or look slightly terrified) but it softens a bit when she sees the flowers and him, and she remembers that it's just Alek. This probably won't be any different than any of the other times they've hung out. They just happened to be dressed a little nicer.
(Alek will totally help her name the dog, ftr. His suggestions just might be terrible.)
"...Hey."
He straightens in place one she opens the door, his own features softening as he takes her all in. It shouldn't surprise him - he's always known that Cora is beautiful regardless of what she's wearing - but the blow to his chest is a little bit stronger this time around. Something about seeing her standing in the doorway is simultaneously calming and exhilarating. "Wow, you look great."
By now he's completely forgotten the flowers that are in his hand, until he follows her line of sight. "Oh! These are for you."
(They're probably better than what Stiles or Scott would come up with, considering in another universe Stiles named her brother's dog after his sister. So.)
She laughs a bit as she takes the flowers from him, taking in the scent before they really get close enough, before glancing around the room as to ... what she's actually going to put them in considering that: " ... I don't think I have a vase."
Alek cringes, but somehow manages to look adorable while doing so. He glances around the room himself, and then there's a lightbulb moment. He ushers into the bathroom, grabbing the toothpaste holder and filling it with water. When he steps back into the room, he lifts it up with a broad (and proud) smile. "Does this work?"
She grins at him before nodding, moving forward to drop the ends of the flowers into the water. After that, she'll set it down on her dresser, in a way that probably doesn't really go with the aesthetic of the room at all, but she doesn't really care. Her boyfriendguy she likes to make out with friend brought her flowers, and she is appreciative.
It's a rare and unabashed grin that makes him look younger, or maybe it just makes him look his actual age. Once she's set the flowers down on the dresser, he reaches for her hand, locking their fingers together.
She lets him take her hand, following along where she's tugged and only stopping to make sure she had the key to get back into her cabin later. Her hand doesn't leave his, even for a second, and she just falls into step next to them as they walk.
There's a small, sheepish smile in response to her question.
"At the risk of being predictable? ... It's pizza. But there's a twist to it!" In that they are heart-shaped and there will be dessert and the place they will be eating the pizza at is sort of fancy. But it's them, and Alek kind of wanted to stick to who they are for it. Besides, one of the first foods they ever ate together was pizza.
She laughs at that, before nodding. "I, personally, am always okay with pizza." It's better than having to learn to like something new and complicated, and pizza felt like them, which in the end was the most important part.
Alek opens the door and motions for her to step in first. "What about beverage-wise? It occurs to me now that I haven't asked what your favorite thing to drink is, though I'm sure... the place will have it," he says, scratching the back of his head thoughtfully.
He doesn't know how the food replenishes, but he's sure he's probably better off not knowing.
It probably is for the best. Poking into these things without the proper consideration for what may be behind closed doors is how you find out horrible, horrible things that make you regret everything one day. That's just the way the world works.
"I like to keep it simple. Coke or Sprite is usually good."
"Coke it is," Alek says with an easy smile. He could just as easily get the robots to fetch them their sodas, but he'd rather get them himself. He's a Coca Cola person through and through.
She will keep that in mind. And she will wait there for her Coke, looking around as she goes to try and get a better feel of the place. She tracks the exits and the other people around mostly out of habit, but eventually her eyes will wander back to Alek while she waits for him to come back.
She totally isn't staring. Or at least not trying to do it in a creepy way, but she may be failing. She just still can't believe she's actually doing this.

Does he get a gold star? Does he?
