This situation they have landed in, perhaps, gives a whole new meaning to the word interruption. Sam's a nice guy, true--except for those times when he's not, but he isn't about to admit that--and he definitely likes Buffy a lot. It's actually taken him by surprise how much, considering how ambivalent he's become about starting something with anyone. His hesitance has always revolved around what happened with Jess and how people get hurt whenever they find themselves caring about him.
It's different with Buffy. Her life is similar, if not weirder, than he is. She is stronger than he is, and is not only used to the supernatural things that go bump in the night, she's meant to be the one to get rid of them.
Still, it took a while to get the ball rolling. And just as things were going smoothly, they tumble onto the floor and everything changes.
Quite literally. Sam brings himself quickly to his feet, opening his mouth to say something that's meant to be reassuring, when he notices they aren't alone. Buffy doesn't recognize the figure on the bed--Sam does.
Sam places himself in front of Buffy, eyes widening a little in disbelief. "...Dean?"
